I don't really know what's best.  I'd been using something similar
to this in my local tree for a while, but couldn't convince myself
that it was right.  Your elf_discarded_section test is a significant
improvement, however, so I'd say go ahead and commit this.  If we
later find a better generic solution, we can revert the alpha hunk.
