Why would you write (unsigned) -1?  For example, in
ldwrite.c line 533:

  if (config.split_by_reloc != (unsigned) -1

Has this somehow become idiomatic for "largest
unsigned int 
value"?  Is that common practice, and I was unaware of
it?  Will it
always be correct?
