workaround: configure errors in latest snapshots on HPUX 11.00

It is crude, but seems to work, but gcc still won't compile :-(
I just stalked through the configure scripts and decided to
cheat a little bit:

# setenv ac_cv_header_alloca_h no
# setenv ac_cv_func_alloca_works no
# gmake distclean
# ./configure --prefix=/my/path
# gmake
# gmake install


I am still missing a comment from a developer ...
