libtool update

Since many people encountered problems with the experimental version
of libtool that we have recently adopted, I've spent some time on
libtool last week-end, testing it on 20+ different platforms and
fixing all bugs I could find.  I'm quite satisfied with the result, so
I'm checking in the following patch.  It's reasonably large, because
of line numbering in generated shell-scripts, so I'm bzip2ing it.

Expect a little bit of instability in the source tree in the next few
minutes, since I'll be rebuilding configure on all affected
directories.
