If you really must, use something like this in the beginning of
parse_reg(), in gas/config/tc-sh.c:
if (src[0] == '$' && src[1] != '$')
{
int ret = parse_reg (src+1, mode, reg);
if (ret)
{
as_warn (_("$ is deprecated as a register prefix"));
++ret;
}
return ret;
}
