Oh gee, Professor Ulrich, thank you so much for the detailed
point-by-point reply to my tedious question.  Your in-depth technical
explanations have really cleared up my deep misunderstandings, and I am
on the true path once again.

Thank goodness you didn't assign me the homework of reading specific
historic mailing list discussions.  We all hate homework and don't care
to learn afterall.


I do thank Ian for reminding me that I really should have said ``when
targeting Linux vs. "Linux Binutils"''.
