Does dwarf2 really work with a.out?

Looking through the gas code, I don't believe a.out can work with
dwarf2. The problem is a.out has the fixed number of sections. But
dwarf2dbg.c calls

      info_seg = subseg_new (".debug_info", 0);
      abbrev_seg = subseg_new (".debug_abbrev", 0);
      aranges_seg = subseg_new (".debug_aranges", 0);

I believe the a.out version of subseg_new () will complain

	Attempt to switch to nonexistent segment ".debug_info"

since a.out doesn't know those new sections nor it can create the new
one on the fly. Should I submit a patch to disable dwarf2 for a.out?
