Problems with binutils-990716

Hi all,
	here is yet again another problem from binutils-990716. When I try to 
compile hello.c I get the following.

/usr/cygnus/H-mips-dde-sysv4.2MP/mips-dde-sysv4.2MP/bin/ld: 
/usr/cygnus/H-mips-dde-sysv4.2MP/lib/crt1.o: .text+0x0: jump to stub routine 
which is not jal
/usr/cygnus/H-mips-dde-sysv4.2MP/mips-dde-sysv4.2MP/bin/ld: final link 
failed: Bad value
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

No change either trying to use my native startup files.
