OK, so XPath "hosts" (which provide context to XPath expressions) can add
their own types. For example, XSLT adds the RTF type. XPointer presumably
adds its own types as well. But can vendors introduce their own types into
XSLT (in addition to the type that XSLT is adding)? Any mention in the XSLT
spec?

Xpath section 1 says:
The value of a variable is an object, which can be of any of the types
that are possible for the value of an expression, and may also be of
additional types not specified here.
