Roland has made a patch for glibc 2.1 which I backported and that guy
said:

Therefore it seems to work for him. But I don't know enough about his
environment. Roland told me also that the next hurd release version
will only run with glibc 2.1. I'll keep this in mind with further
hurd reports.
