note that sprintf behaviour changed observably such that it
breaks existing code (although not standard conform code).
this may be worth fixing before the release?

(since it breaks spec2006 and spec2017 and there is no
cmdline flag that allows working this around anybody
who runs spec with glibc will be affected and i think
spec does not fix issues like this.)
