I discussed the matter with Carlos and our Emacs maintainer, and we can
implement the API removal in the upcoming Fedora 25 release (which uses

__malloc_initialize_hook.

there a patch or a configure knob you're turning ? i can pass it along
to the Gentoo emac maintainers and see if they can deploy it too for some
testing.

The idea is too keep this patch in Fedora 25 and beyond even if it is revert upstream:

commit 2ba3cfa1607c36613f3b30fb1ae4ec530245ce64
Author: Florian Weimer <fweimer@redhat.com>
Date: Fri Jun 10 10:46:05 2016 +0200

malloc: Remove __malloc_initialize_hook from the API [BZ #19564]

The upstream revert has not happened, and it is unclear whether it will before the release, so no further action is necessary for the current master.

Thanks,
Florian
