Where did I ever say it is not used?  It's used all the time.  If you
need some special, non-standard lookups use a different, independent
tool.  That's all I said.

No, having a gazillion different configurations is a nightmare.

And as I said, this all is completely irrelevant when nscd is used
(which should always be the case).
