Hmm, wouldn't that mean that the built-in path searches glibc and
friends in /usr/lib on the target? And on the development host: wouldn't
that mean that ld searches for the libraries in /usr/lib (where the x86
native things live)? 

It's difficult to test all that variants, because every compiler run
needs about half an hour...
