Under the Adobe Reader 6.0.3 > Preferences > Multimedia tab, a setting for the preferred player exists. (On my Mac OSX machine, this is set to QuickTime).

From the last posting on docbook-apps listserv, the FOP processor doesn't handle embedded movies for PDF output.

Nevertheless, PDF output apparently can contain various format movies.

Perhaps I must manually edit the PDF using something like Acrobat (not Reader)?

Which is a freebie option when you download the free viewer.

Surely if you want to view movies, choose a file format
 more suited to that purpose?
