I had this problem with old pdftex - had to upgrade to version 0.14h and
it went away...
BTW,
"Labels may have changed. Rerun to get cross-references right."
is not an error - this is normal behavior.

That's what Sebastian told me. I've been attempting to upgrade, but that's
giving me some difficulty, too. I downloaded a RedHat upgrade to
teTeX/pdfTeX and upgraded. Now when I attempt to run passiveTeX or try to
rebuild the format file, I get errors. I'm downloading the rest of RedHat's
repair rpms for tetex/pdfTex, hoping the entire set will let everything
work again.
