In that case, you can use second alternative which utilizes dbhtml PI:
<chapter id="whatevere_you_want_or_missing">
<title>My chapter</title>
<?dbhtml filename="msearch-ch01.html"?>
...
</chapter>
Now your filenames are not dependant on IDs.
