A _slightly_ better route is to convert them to PDF and select and paste
the text a paragraph at a time into your text editor, creating and/or
adding DocBook markup as you go.  As Sebastian implies, you're going to
have to mark up the document by "hand" one way or another.  This is the
only way we have come up with so far.  If someone else has a better
idea, bring it on!
