Re: DSSSL Variables
/ Holger Rauch <Holger.Rauch@heitec.de> was heard to say:
| What's the reason that some variables of the Modular DocBook style sheets
| are enclosed in percent signs, others are enclosed in dollar signs and
| still others are not surrounded by any special signs at all? Is this some
| convention that is followed throughout the style sheets? If so, what's the
| meaning behind all this?
That was a convention started by the previous maintainer. My
understanding was that %-ish things were sortof constants and $-ish
things were sortof functions. I tried for a while to continue the
conventions but eventually gave up, especially when I found that I
wanted to set some of the %-ish ones from the command line and on
Windows that's just a pain because you have to double-escape the
%-sign.
In short, it's not very meaningful and I wish I'd ripped it all out
years ago.
Be seeing you,
