By default, the only place I know for sure that the user has write-access to is ${HOME}. Any other place on the system will most probably not be writable. The default has to be something in ${HOME}.

Hence, the interesting conundrum that the only place CT-NG knows to be writable just happens to be the one of the least friendly places for users that are not the toolchain builder. I can't believe I seem to be the first person to bump into this.
