what's the current situation with gcc releases and snapshots?

while this isn't technically a crosstool issue, i figure some folks
on this list would be just the people who'd know what's going on.

what's the status of the most recent releases of gcc in terms of
official releases and snapshots? over at ftp://gcc.gnu.org, i see
that the most recent official release is gcc-4.0.2 while, under
snapshots, there is 4.1-20051125, followed immediately by a
4.2-20051201.

what means this? does this mean that an official gcc-4.1 release is
imminent and that further work is now going to concentrate on gcc-4.2?
and where would be the best place to keep up with these developments?
thanks.

rday

p.s. any ETA on crosstool-0.40? or whatever it's going to be called?
