sorry about that earlier crankiness

  my apologies to dan and the rest of the list for my snarkiness
earlier this week.  too much driving, too little sleep and not enough
smarts on my part to understand what was going on with those kernel
makefiles that were interfering with the build process.

  if, as dan points out, those arch-dependent makefiles in the kernel
source tree are screwing things up, then naturally they should be
fixed/patched.

  i'm better now.  really.
