Yes, you are right. gcc+newlib might be better in my case. Can you give me some advice (or available scripts and|or tutorials) ?
First off, you might want to be asking the newlib mailing list http://sources.redhat.com/newlib/ or the crossgcc mailing list http://sources.redhat.com/ml/crossgcc/ instead of me, so I'm cc'ing the crossgcc mailing list; please join one or both of those mailing lists, and direct future questions there.
I tried to build a gcc+newlib chain using the explanations given here: http://www.giga.it.okayama-u.ac.jp/~ishihara/opensource/mips-cross_compiler.html but I was not able to make it. Since I can't spreak Japanese, I used Google to translate it :-) (and I might be "lost in translation")
On your crosstool page, you mention about Bill Gatliff's crossgcc FAQ and build script ( http://crossgcc.billgatliff.com/ ), but the link is broken. You might need to update it.
Do you know any other available "instructions" for building a MIPS R3000 EL crosstool?
A quick google search for gcc newlib mips toolchain turned up http://ecos.sourceware.org/build-toolchain.html
Does that help? - Dan
