'e' = 0x65, while '%' = 0x25, so it's just 1 bit fallen over.
Therefore, I fear that you have a machine with bad memory.  I would
advise running memtest for a long time...


Yup.  (Or, if it's hot where you are, put another fan on your computer,
or underclock it.  Or switch to a different computer!)
