Problems building mips target under FreeBSD 3.1

Greetings,

I'm having a little trouble building cross-development tools for MIPS
on FreeBSD 3.1.

I have followed the recommended procedure with build-binutils and bin-gcc
build directories and binutils builds fine.  When I build gcc is goes for
awhile and then gives the following error:

xgcc: installation problem, cannot exec `mips-tfile': No such file or directory
*** Error code 1
