Well, 

If I were in your place, I'd yank a copy of NT off the shelf. WRS does support
NT and its very solid, and you should be able to dual boot your laptop with NT
and Solaris. Although, I've never tried it that way, I have had NT,DOS,and
Linux all on the same machine.

If your laptop doesn't have the guts to run NT, try Linux. I've been using the
GNU M68k-cross tools under Linux for a few large projects and they are pretty
solid.
