BTW, I recommend downloading the correct versions of autoconf and
automake from ftp.gnu.org, installing them into a new --prefix (use
the same one for both tools), and then putting this into your PATH
whenever you need to use these.
The vendor auto* tools sometimes have output-changing patches, which
means churn in the repository when other developers use the unmodified
versions.
