I don't know much about MI, but IIUC the way to deal with this in
frontends is to use varobjs. Vladimir's patch in the python branch
enables extending varobjs with a python script (a visualizer, in his
jargon) which can provide a useful varobj representation for a
dataformat.

So this case should be covered.
