Hi,
I noticed that the draft for the next version of gedcom has been released.
For the first time gedcom will use XML !!
For those who use Michael Kay's book (second ed) the use of XML for a family
tree will be familiar.
This will have a major ramification for the use of XSL with genealogical
data.
The draft including the proposed DTD can be found at:
http://www.familysearch.org/GEDCOM/GedXML60.pdf
Michael Kay started developing gedML but seemingly has not updated it in
years.
Anyone care to comment on how different they are?
One area that I don’t like is the use of html within the gedcom XML file in
the new proposal.
(For example <html:BR />) I think that formatting has no place in XML but
belongs in the XSL.
I guess the third edition of Michael Kay's book might use the new format
(assuming he likes it).
Lou
