Christian,

  I am skeptical that the patch is at fault since no other embedded 
platforms are reporting problems.  There is nothing special about 
z8k-coff in newlib configuration compared to other embeddded platforms. 
 For some reason, you do not appear to have built at least the 
argz/lib.a.  That is what we need to look at first.

  Can you please perform a fresh build into a completely empty build 
directory?  Specify full directory paths for now and save the output of 
both your configure and build.  Perhaps a tool isn't configuring 
properly for some reason.
