Geoff,
        Sorry I forgot to send this to the list. One thing I just noticed
was that on a machine with glibc 2.1.3 the zlib example program
has no __gmon_start__  symbols at all. Whereas we get two
__gmon_start__'s when building under glibc 2.1.94.
