That option would tell the version of the tools/library.

Before we roll out the first 1.0 tarball release of libabigail, the
implementation of that option should be able to get the git version and date of
the commit at the time of the snapshot, and display a string like:

  1.0-pre-2015-06-23-git-d0b8ef652
