The situation now quite different. It can maybe be phrased as:
"We used to think it was feasible based on Rush, but now we know
that Rush never really existed. Still, people should try
implementing translators instead of giving up and saying it's too
hard."
No, that is not the situation. People have been translating other
languages into Lisp and Scheme since the 1970s at least. Rush was
relevant only as regards the execution speed of translated TCL.
Wouldn't it be better to encourage the writing of translators, but not
discourage the use of Phython?
Python has a lot of inertia on its side. In order to give Scheme and
Guile a real chance, we must not let that inertia make the decisions.
Hence the policy that GNU packages must use Scheme for extensibility.
The policy remains as necessary now as it was before.
