Well, if that happens, the affected tool should be fixed eventually
(assuming the discoverer of the bug bothered submitting fixes to the
relevant maintainer). Until then, it's much better to make a patch that
fixes the bug available, than to prepare own tarballs (or apart from).
This way one may apply required patches to new versions of the tool. This
simplifies local maintenance of the tool as other patches or newer
versions may be required for other software.
