About dynamic and external symbols

Subject: About dynamic and external symbols

   Hello there,

I was wondering what is difference between dynamic and external symbols, 
ie. nm -D <ELF> and nm -g <ELF> output?

Also if an <ELF> file is stripped, -g does not show any external symbols. 
Plus there are dynamic symbols, some of which are defined and some are 
undefined(UNDEF).
