[docbook] XML Editors

I am very new to XML and am currently using a freeware product called
Cooktop as an xml editor. It seems to me to be very buggy. One day my xml
file will be
valid, the next day it won't. Has anyone else had similar problems or can
maybe recommend a better freeware xml editor?
