Note that fp->_seek64 is actually null, so this is calling a null pointer, possibly caused by gnulib interfering with the call sequence?


or applying the wrong sequence to a Posix system, that portion of Octave
is built using gnulib submodules. It seems the new build are taking the
wrong pieces.
