Tho the change gets written ok. It seems to have started with 1.7.5. No problem seen with other files.
No such problem here. Can you create an strace, please?
Btw., your /etc/group file needs regenerating.
FWIW, I just updated (though vim didn't need it) via 'setup.exe' to get everything current and I can't reproduce this problem anymore.
Did you reinstall Windows too? Just curious.
