Can you tell us more about the network drive, like is it running Samba,
and if so, what version?

Unrelated to your problem, but probably worth resolving if you want sane
perl behavior under cygwin.
> bash 3.1-9
> coreutils 5.97-1
> cygwin 1.5.21-2
You may want to consider upgrading; all three of these packages have newer
versions released, which may affect the issue.
I'll let Corinna comment on the volinfo, since she is more familiar with it.
