Win32 error 487 and rebaseall

Thought it was worth reporting my experience today back to this list.
These "Win32 error 487" messages were getting worse and worse to the
point that it was becoming impossible to start Xwin and run an xterm.
Searching back through the list I found
http://www.cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2005-09/msg00919.html where John Wei
makes a reference to rebaseall.
Unfortunately, /bin/rebaseall fails to execute on the current release of
cygwin (1.5.20-1) because of the following line:
grep -q -i -v '/ash$' /proc/[0-9]*/exename
It is supposed to ensure that only ash is running. The problem is that
cat /proc/[0-9]*/exename produces:
Thus the script needs to be modified to say:
grep -q -i -v '/ash\.exe$' /proc/[0-9]*/exename
The script then ran happily and, to my surprise, it actually solved the
problem. I have not seen the error since but still have not uncrossed
