Problem report -------------- Late addition: Just to let the "interested" know... FYI or whatever. To put it "nicely": Sorry, to tell about this; but I've had *enough* of problem reporting right now. i.e. I'm getting rather fed up with it. So: I'll be working on these problems with "brute force methods" - possibly removing any traces of what happened. So, please: don't expect to get more information than there is right here, in this posting. I might end up posting more on the subject though... We'll see what happens. During the process here I've gotten the impression that there is problems in converting to "FHS" when it comes to Reinstall-ing at least. Don't know how true this is - but right now I don't care. I just want a FULLY working cygwin installation back on my desktop. These problems might have had the main source in setup reinstalling the old 1.3.22 of cygwin. Again; I don't care, as I said above. -- Here we go -- Prior to these problems I had 1.5.3(?) and "Curr + All @ Install" setup that was fairly recent. A snapshot cygwin1.dll was present too. I got cygwin 1.3.22 back, from sunsite.dk, at an setup-run on "All @ Install" yesterday. Changing to the rcn.net mirror gave me 1.5.x back, all OK as it sems... BUT: > > As things went wrong somewhere I tried brute force; Reinstall > > everything... setup.exe seems to have some peculiar problem with > > "Reinstall"-ing _update-info-dir-00213-1. NOTES: * Disable virus scanner (I have F-secure running) * Install from local directory It seems to run for while (10-30 seconds?), no progress bar is shown, and then... > >It ends up with this: > > > >+-------------------------------------------+ > >[Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library x] > > > > (X) Runtime Error! > > > > Program: ...<blah-blah>\setup-2.415.exe > > > > > > abnormal program termination > > > > [ OK ] > >+--------------------------------------------+ > >SIGH. Not checked what the problem is, This seems not be correct: > > setup-2.340.2.5 seems to have the same problem (IIRC). But the REINSTALL seems go VERY quick (i.e. not be performed). The setup.exe window disappears after less than a minute; may I guess that the problem is there too, but that this version doesn't detect it - in the same manner. An attempt w setup 2.249.2.5 ... seems to work better. Reinstallation in progress as I write this. Ehrm...! It stops on another thing, :-7 - here we go: +---------------------------------------------+ [Cygwin Setup x] Can't open (null) for reading: no such file [ OK ] +---------------------------------------------+ The main setup window displays among other (not interesting?) things: -- [5% - Cygwin setup _~x] Replacing... <no package name> /usr/share/dejagnu/xsh.exp and an empty 'Package:' progress bar. -- Klicking OK -> reinstall continues...
