I'm late then...  Oh, well... :-)
Anyway, you probably don't want to use CVS HEAD -- I think you'd be better
off building one of the official releases from source (which you can
download by following the above link).
Also, the newer Jikes versions (1.17 and up, I think) have some issues
compiling older Java code, so you might want to downgrade, too.
Experiment. ;-)
