You would get this problem if your Cygwin was configured in "DOS" text file
mode. This is an acknowledged problem, but no one has had time to fix it.

Hi,
I installed a fresh X and get this error:

Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'

The X-Server pops up for a fraction of a second and then I see that error on
my console (tried both startxwin.bat from cmd and startx from bash).
CygWin: latest stable packages as from 23/09/2001 on the mirrors
cygwin-Package: 1.3.3-2
X: same, Xinstall.sh tells me it's Version 4.1.0
installed X-Packages: all except of Xfcyr and Xps
Windows: NT 4.0 SP6
Platform: Intel Mobile Celeron on LapTop Dell Latitude
