I realize this is the case, but I am trying to get a handle on why this
is... that is, if anyone knows... Where in the layer is the greatest
slowdown? Is it in the "select" implementation? Is it in the network
implementation? The fact that the cygwin1.dll is interfacing to other
dlls? I am just curious from a deeper perspective.
