Just point ./configure to a place where you have write access, smthg like: # ./configure --prefix=${HOME}/my-gcc [plus other options???] # make # make install # export PATH="${HOME}/my-gcc/bin:${PATH}" Note the order in PATH, so that your gcc takes precedence over the system one.
