.debug_macro 0 : { *(.debug_macro) }

Is this the right fix?

Yes.

If it is ok, then why doesn't the standard
linker command file have it?

Because the .debug_macro section is relatively and not currently part of the DWARF standard.

I will, however, check in a patch to add this section to the various standard linker scripts that need it.
