fix build when using gcc-4.6
- From: Alan Modra <amodra at gmail dot com>
- To: binutils at sourceware dot org

- Subject: fix build when using gcc-4.6
gcc-4.6 warns when variables are set but not otherwise used. Of
course this warning triggers all over the place in binutils, due to
our habit of copying functions then editing.
