- Subject: Configure script detecting version of makeinfo
I have on Fedora:
$ makeinfo --version
makeinfo (GNU texinfo) 4.11
Copyright (C) 2007 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
License GPLv3+: GNU GPL version 3 or later <http://gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html>
This is free software: you are free to change and redistribute it.
There is NO WARRANTY, to the extent permitted by law.
And the configure script of binutils-2.18 check the version by:
# For an installed makeinfo, we require it to be from texinfo 4.4 or
# higher, else we use the "missing" dummy.
if ${MAKEINFO} --version \
| egrep 'texinfo[^0-9]*([1-3][0-9]|4\.[4-9]|[5-9])' >/dev/null 2>&1; then
:
else
MAKEINFO="$MISSING makeinfo"
Which does not seem to take into account that the subversion of makeinfo may
contain 2 digits - so makeinfo is declared missing because assumed v4.1 .
Unfortunately it does not only forget to rebuild documentation, it stops the
building/install (in a local directory) process.
Sorry, not a specialist of configure, do not know how to fix it.
Etienne.
