This looks like a bug in libtool. I don't see any fix for it in the
current libtool CVS tree (I installed files as of one month ago), so
upgrading now would be useless. Would you please file a bug report to
the libtool mailing list, with the configuration section of a libtool
script, so that I (or some other libtool developer) can investigate
the problem and fix it?
Meanwhile, you may libtoolize your tree with libtool 1.3.5, copy
libtool.m4 from it to the top-level directory and rerun autoconf on
all affected directories.
