Using libvte-java create a simple console window that can be brought up by some
fashion (maybe a button in another window, or right clicking on the status
icon). Then I would need to integrate it's output and input with frysk/jline.

I have created the simple window, and made frysk compile and run with it. It
seems like the libvte-java terminal is still disfunctional, need to investigate
what's wrong there.
